Agency’s challenge: Create new custom characters for “interactive” can designs without adding extra printing costs such as glow-in-the-dark or thermochromic ink.
After considering several concepts, the clients thought our Monster Mash-Up lineup would generate the most buzz among consumers. I sketched the six monsters for placement on their respective cans and then illustrated the final characters for production. My in-store creative reinforced the interchangeability of the 8-ounce cans. Earning We Are Alexander’s first Addy award, these characters and this packaging program were brought back another three years as the “#MiniMonsters”.
